Teaching for nearly a decade at the Art Institute of Hollywood and two years at the New York Film Academy wasn't a side gig — it was active leadership. Curriculum development, mentoring, placing students at major studios, and building the bridges between education and industry. I also taught privately — clients have included ESPN, Nuno Bettencourt, and others.
Guiding young adults through the hardest transition of their lives — from student to working professional — is the same job a creative leader does with a junior team: set the bar high, give honest notes without breaking people, delegate real responsibility, and develop raw talent until it doesn't need you anymore. Most managers supervise. I've spent a decade actually building creatives.
My philosophy hasn't changed since the classroom: get out of talented people's way while quietly raising the ceiling.
Adjunct Professor, Film & VFX Department. Taught all levels of editing (Avid & Premiere), motion graphics (After Effects), History of Film, VFX, and portfolio development. Helped students land positions at major studios.
Instructor in video editing and motion graphics at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Graduate Teaching Assistant throughout MFA program. Taught own classes and helped design curriculum. Dean's List.
Outside the industry — coaching U12 girls volleyball. Same instincts apply: build confidence, develop talent, win as a team.
Instrumental in creating bridges that allow students to launch their careers.
As Alex's student, I valued the instruction, advice, and overall exposure to the post-production industry. He steered me in the right direction with the tools and critical perspectives needed to be successful.
Alex made me look smart, stylish and innovative. Patient, responsive, reassuring — a consummate professional and truly gifted at teaching these skills.
High standards, aesthetic sensibilities and a terrific collaborative nature... a valued source for our students. I have the highest regard for Alex as an artist and a person.
He communicated with all of us as professionals and helped me transition into industry-ready mode. He never degraded our work and always gave advice that helped us make great improvements.
His teaching went beyond tutorials — he shared his own real work experience and showed us how things are done in the industry. A caring and committed teacher.
